Sketch from the vault: Mephisto #2 The great conundrum
This was a fun sketch because its a sketch of Mephisto shooting The Blue Beetle in the head. I drew this because Mephistos actions in Brand New Day were retconned by Marvel Editor in Chief at the time Joe Quesada while Blue Beetles Death will not be retconned by DC Chief Publisher at the time Dan Didio

Sketch from the vault: Mephisto #1
I had a red ball point pen. I NEVER use red pen so I thought I'd use it in a sketch. Here's Mephisto

Painting week 2: Canberra Day means ART day!
So yesterday I showed the initial sketch for this painting. Now to work on the initial background layers. Building up and up. This gives a result that is unfortunately not as detailed as the original pencil sketch but it gives a finish that you can then go over to touch up or leave as is.
Step 1: Setting up a work space
Laying in colour 1: Grey
Laying out colour 2: Burnt sienna
Laying out colour 3: Black
Laying out colour 4: White
It is important to out whites. You have to remember that you are creating coats and layers.
Second coat:
The second coat works to build the colour and to get rid of the canvas texture. Part of me wants to keep the canvas texture for the veil. (It is here that I noticed that he kind of looks like ObiWan
Now to let it dry and work on the third and fourth coats.
Here is a photo of what it looks like versus the real photo and sketch

Painting week 1: Crafternoon!
This weekend I had the honour of being invited to Jessica Macks place to have Crafternoon! An afternoon of mini cupcakes, tea and art.
Also Robert Perie gave me a canvas and the subtle hint that I should paint more. So this was perfect! BUUuuuut I didn't want to do something comic related like last time so I looked at the internet for a striking image.

I found this one:
I had to draw it up in a grid
Work out the colours to use
Then the 3 hour task of drawing it up on the 50x50cm grid
I'll keep you posted on how this goes.
Project Rooftop: Static
Project Rooftop, in memory of the late Dwayne McDuffie who passed away on February 21 this year, is doing a tribute redesign of on of his best known characters Static.
I went for a Lobster Johnson vibe for my piece. Hope you like it.
